2. друг (drug) is another Swedish blip-blop 8bit generation act. The name is a hommage to the classic Commodore Amiga computer in that the word means "friend" in russian.
The music is based on simple waveforms and white noise with some degree of "modern" digital effects applied. The original ideas for the music are implemented on a ZX Spectrum 128k featuring the AY-3-8192 soundchip. друг also writes music for this soundchip and uses both the Atari ST (featuring the same chip) and the ZX Spectrum in live performances.
Apart from influences from the chipscene друг is heavily influenced by hard-bop jazz and other forms of modal jazz. But the sound itself is clearly rooted in the music from 8-bit machines like the Nintendo Entertainment System and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
Perhaps in an attempt to differentiate from other simliar artists in Sweden, друг has to date not used the sid sound-chip (Commodore 64/128) in any music, although the Commodore Amiga and modern PCs are elements in live performances and composition.
