The ending of Little Things and the first verses of this song in the album context shows us how musically smart they are

With all due respect to their epic and iconic works of the 70's and 80's, after almost 11 months since its release it's safe for me to say: "Don't Shut Me Down" is one of the greatest ABBA songs ever!

The lyrics are on another level on this one. There's the story about a woman reuniting with a former partner, feelings about the ABBA reunion in general and with all the technology references I can't help that there's a layer in the lyrics which talk about the ABBAtar shows ("in this shape and form I appear now", "decoded", now and then combined" etc.). The moment the ABBAtars start singing "I'm fired up, don't shut me down" will be so meta. Björn really came through.

What an iconic comeback song by ABBA! It sounds like a "Greatest Hits" within one song. Which older ABBA songs do you hear interpolated in "Don't Shut Me Down"? I hear a musical-esque intro as in "Thank You For the Music". The reggae pop vibe is know from "One Of Us". The chorus chord progression is almost identical to the "Super Trouper" post chorus. Various piano and string elements sound very similar to those in "Dancing Queen", "One Man, One Woman" as well as "Lovers (Live a Little Longer)". The overall vibe reminds me of "Me and I" as well as "Take a chance on me" in places. Reply with further resemblances you spotted in this yet again magical ABBA song.

This song in particular is just so layered with meanings and interpretations all while embodying that classic ABBA sound yet sounding mostly modern. Benny is a literal composition wizard, Björn is a songwriting veteran with fire of passion and faith that never burnt out and Agnetha and Frida are still absolute angels sent among us, even after all these years. Only ABBA can take such a long break and return as if no time had passed, during trying and difficult times none the less. Thank you for the music, ABBA, I’m excited to hear the rest of the songs in November.

the better of the 2 new songs, Agnetha still sounds great after all these years

I was blown away by so many emotions that flooded me when that chorus came on, it left me in tears. I waited so much for their comeback, it makes me feel very emotional. What a track!!! <3

ABBA ran through my childhood & teenage years. I know the lyrics of almost all ABBA songs by heart and I've never stopped listening to probably the best pop music ever written and composed. And now they're back, when we need them the most. And once again they get me all emotional & nostalgic. Björn wrote some powerful lyrics for this song, the vocals are divine as always and Benny's piano scales around the 3 minute interval put a big grin of recognition on my face. Thank you for coming back! Thank you for being ABBA!

I wonder, how "new" is actually this song? Is this a leftover from back in the days, or is it something completely new for their upcoming album? I want to know. I guess some of the songs are old songs they never recorded or so?

I like "Don't Shut Me Down" the most.. Like the others already stated, it sounds like they never left! Wonderful how they can achieve this feeling after 40 years. But, how old are these songs really? I feel they sound like "leftovers" they didn't released back in the days.
