I remember being in my HS weight room blasting out bench reps to this song in 1981-82. It would fire me up in my 16 year old jock head...still does today.

Funny thing : I bought the cd when it came out thinking it was a metal compilation !! I was totally blown away by Don Felder's songs.

@Eoghan_88 I agree to a certain degree. I have a feeling it's just the constant South Park reference gets on one's nerves. Imagine something you really love and have loved for some time, then imagine some little kids seeing it referenced on one of their shows, then imagine those kids constantly associating it with that instead of what it's originally from - that thing you've loved for so long. Then imagine their defense is "well this is how they were introduced to it, so what", all the while still making their little spongebob references or what have you. On one hand, it exposed a new audience, on the other hand it's tainted by the foreign material. It's a double-edged sword, really.

Getting this song from the Heavy Metal film and not seeing it for the first time on South Park doesn't make anyone better than anyone else, it's just 2 different ways of being introduced to a kick-ass song. I got the soundtrack to the film first from a friend and heard it that way, there's a 3rd way!

omg what a bunch of boneheads here Watch the movie! Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian animated film from executive producer Leonard Mogel, who was also the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine. With Ivan Reitman producing and Gerald Potterton directing, the work was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments, including CinéGroupe and Atkinson Film-Arts. The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity, and sexuality.

organburner is the truth. I'd heard of Felder from the Eagles, but not the movie or the songs. South Park did an awesome thing.

Guys, south park did a good thing. Not all of us were born when Heavy Metal (The film) was made. If it wasn't for south park I wouldn't have watched that and wouldn't have heard Don Felder OR Sammy Haggar.
