Even "Jenseits" being an EP (39 minutes could be considered a normal LP anyway), is a fvcking massive material and probably, AOTY.

Looks like they're releasing a new EP soon, according to RYM. Should check with the band themselves but 1 track at 39 minutes? As good as this band is they're not lastfm friendly 🤣, though I managed to get over 3,000 plays.

I had an issue scrobbling that album, I'd get 3 different album scrobbles with that I don't really remember my ID tags for individual tracks may had been not all saved , at the time I got Rastlos so in between Weltenkraft I just put ...zum Tode hin on hold. Never got back to it.

Still love the catchy old stuff back from the first EP. Newer material is a bit harder to absorb, but rewarding if you give it a few listens.

After a few weeks with "Zerfall" I'm quite disappointed to be honest. The production's still a messy loudness war, the songs itself are too lengthy and the whole choir-stuff, while being well executed in general, overdosed. I mean, yeah, as I saw the tracklist including the song lengths I've expected a lot from "Ecce Homo" especially, but they couldn't deliver the goods. There's no sense in creating a 36-minute song if you can't maintain the tension, but that's just my opinion I guess. Don't get me wrong, it's still an okayish effort after all, but "... zum Tode hin" reigns supreme still.

Agree in a way with your remark on the last album. Maybe too polished, too bombastic (too much cream on the cake!), compared to Rastlos. But on the other side, Zerfall contains solid and epic tracks!

Very good Equilibrium-like music here. Too bad only three last albums are available in Spotify.

Really enjoy, Mach dich frei. I hadn't realized this band has released new material since Rastlos.

Screw this, I don't get the direction this band takes anymore. On its own "YOLO" sounds fun, reminds Trollfest, and I definitely love the clear choruses and increased usage of accordion. However, it takes efforts to abstract myself from what they have done so far.

With Mach dich frei, they have finally carved out their style and excised the niggling flaws that plagued their early releases (...zum Tode hin is such an awesome album but the vocals weren't up to the music's standards). The band has reached its mature apex and can easily be counted among the best of all folk metal bands.

The Moonsorrow comparisons are definitely justified with some of the band's earlier work, particularly ...zum Tode hin, where they almost sound like a tribute band. Not that that's a bad thing; it's a very difficult style of music to pull off effectively and they do it marvellously. They have definitely developed more of their own sound on the new album, though. Anyway, fantastic band. I need to keep forgetting they exist.

TOTAL SHIT!!!!! BATHORY >>>>>>>>>>>>> MOONSORROW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FISFTINGSROST

The song "Mach Dich Frei" from the self-titled videoclip is awesome. The chorus has improved significantly since Rastlos, well, since other albums as well. It goes on longer, clear singing isn't sugary, yet impressively solid and catchy. Accordion now seems (and sounds) to be an auxiliary-background instrument, it just doesn't overshadow other instruments as it haven't before. Oh yeah, though the song is long enough, it isn't dragging. Thanks for this. Hopefully the rest of the album will be alike.

There are pretty striking similiarities at times, for example Flammenrausch has some guitar parts that are straight from Moonsorrows song pimeä. Still, i wouldnt say this one clone at all, but still, they sound and feel like they are the little brother of moonsorrow in the same way Caladan Brood is to Summoning.

I love this band. And the constant comparison with Moonsorrow is really annoying. Sure there are similitudes in some points, but I don't hear the same thing and the same ambiance at all. And what Finsterforst does is definitly what I want to hear. I like Moonsorrow but this I really love. That is really disrespectful to always say "yea, it's like a Moonsorrow clone...". And bullshit also.

Still can't get used to these folk instruments. Either I will accept them or forget about this band. This dissonance is unpleasant.

Thanks, Nordpolar. I'm familar with Moonsorrow, Falkenbach (never went deeper in his stuff), Nebelhorn (always forgetting about him), Caladan Brood (not as good as they say), Summoning (legend), Nokturnal Mortum (recently realized it's what I need) and Graveland (nah). I'll quickly check the rest soon.
