I'm sort of surprised by the amount of dislike for this album in the last few posts...to me it's their best by a long shot. In my opinion these guys are second only to Blind Guardian in terms of amazing layered choruses, and a lot of the vocal harmonies are much stronger than the last two albums (and those were still really good.) There also seems to be more experimentation in the vocal melodies used, especially on tracks like "Karel von Hapsburg" and "Levnslot." And the production has a much better kick, imo. If anything, Der Stijdlust was more commercial given all the "oy! oy! oy!"-ing that shows up in every other copycat folk metal band ever.

I'd like to add to that, that the lyrical part of Heidevolk always did it for me rather than the music itself. They managed to make Dutch sound poetical (which it really isn’t in daily life, and I’m Dutch so I can know). But the lyrics on this album are rather soulless , there’s no spark, just a freakin’ “oh my god we’re super awesome pagan guys with swords” cliché.

Short translation in English, I think this album is a sucky commercial cliché
