What a fantastic record this is! Probably one of the most artistically accomplished debut records I have ever listened to... All the elements that makes this band great are there to me and the more aggressive approach really suits them. Although I am glad that they decided to branch out and explore other aspects of their songwriting too. They would probably have stagnated if they havn't done so.

Why do keep voting up these reissue covers? Not just for Isis and this album, but in general.

I would usually agree with this type of thinking...but Celestial's original cover is one of the most hideous I've ever seen. The reissue however, has a great color scheme and brings in a depiction of the whole 'tower' thing this album conceptualizes. But to each their own, peace!

Because the original cover really sucks compared to the rest of their covers. The re-issue cover stacks perfectly fine with their other LPs. It has a stark contrast and looks VERY nice.

I hadn't listened to this album in over seven years. Boy, was that ever a mistake.

I love this album very much. Was expecting raw stuff without melodic elements that made me fall in love with Isis in the first place (e.g. Panopticon). But I was wrong, this totally lives up to their later albums, there's much sophistication in it. Oh, and I can see now that they're (or were, sadly) also an obvious influence for Omega Massif. Srsly, just listen to Glisten.

Good to study [6] This kicks my ass slightly more than every other Isis album, but still manages to be intellectually stimulating.

This is such an underrated album. Their later albums are great but this is real, raw atmospheric sludge. Every track on the album is phenomenal.

detecting some hardcore influences here. actually this is one of their best albums next to oceanic, bridge tracks are great. panopticon is good but i think they lost their way around there and started to sound like lame alt-metal - turner changing vocal styles was not for the better.

Isis' most formulaic album. Too little variation. Swarm Reigns (Down) is godlike though.

I am eternally magnetized to this, drawn in and part of it. Always will be the ISIS album that changed me, and helped me through the hardest times of life.

good to study [4] Agree, but 'In the absence of truth' is the best for that purpose, it should be played in every library around the world at least twice a day.

As epic and "celestial" an album this is by itself, it just feels more complete with SGNL>05. I second this reminding me of CoL's The Beyond.
