Listen to selections from Music For Psychedelic Therapy, and other albums by Jon Hopkins, as performed by him and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001ptyd

if you hadn't heard any album better than Immunity in last 10 years, it's a damn shame.

They literally said "one of the greatest albums of electronic music of all time" which is absolutely wrong, lol

I think the lengthy samples in Sit Around The Fire had me feeling apprehensive that the entire record may be riddled with spoken word, but I'm so glad that's not the case. Album is beyond transportive, I agree. Your casual JH fan may wonder where all the beats have fled, but as an ambient / drone head, I'm very much enjoying what he's done here. I'm so glad I saved my first listen for a late night. Just bliss.

None I have in my music collection are like it. This is probably intentional. Most artists prefer different work and not repeating the same thing over and over.

Why is this guy so popular? I mean, millions of listeners on Spotify, which is far unusual for the kind of music he makes. I'm interested in honest answers. Not shit like "because his music is good" because I can name lots of other producers who are as good or better and don't have even 1% of his popularity.

I can almost guarantee you that music that may seem "better" to you I would never listen to. Likewise, music I think is awesome you may think sucks. There's no such thing as better in art, but opinions are just like butt holes. Everyone has one!

I think it's an interesting question. The way I see it, I largely put his popularity down to the universal strength of Immunity and Singularity. These albums have strong appeal to both casual music listeners and music heads alike. They're great. The music of these other artists listed above simply don't have this same broad demographic. I'm sure Hopkins' other work only bolsters his reputation, as well his general exposure through features and marketing of course. He has the kind of larger audience that I would compare to say Four Tet, Caribou and Floating Points, but I guess maybe even moreso. I'd say these are amazing producers with seamless sound designs that offers them wider commercial appeal, almost to a fault (but that's my personal opinion).

My cans have been dormant for a long time, but I put them on last week for the first time in years and just happened to put Singularity on. First time I'd ever listened to Jon Hopkins, but it was an aural wonderland. Superb album

Summer begins: first part of 'Singularity' is better. Summer ending: second part of 'Singularity' is everything. <3

That article/review was clearly only commissioned for clickbait, say something controversial and it'll drive the traffic. Embarrassing.
