I think people are overthinking why the song cuts to a tribal drumbeat after the buildup in part 1. The answer is right there in the name of the song. In any case, this is one of the best progressive rock songs I've ever heard.

"Why build up the guitars like that then suddenly have them cut out to a tribal drum beat?" Asymmetry.

Fuck, this song is the tits. Cannot believe it has taken years of being told to listen to Karnivool before I gave them a chance and now I've had Sound Awake on repeat for about a week. This is incredible.

This is one of my favourite Karnivool songs, so don't get me wrong, but after the way that Change (Part 1) built up and ended the first album with a wall of guitars was such an epic cliffhanger, and then to reprise it in the last 2 mins of the track before this was pure awesomeness, I can't help but feel disappointed that *this* was on the other side of that wall of guitars. It just makes no sense! Why build up the guitars like that then suddenly have them cut out to a tribal drum beat. I wanted to hear the epic song that the wall of guitars were leading to, a true continuation of Change (Part 1). This and Change (Part 1) don't flow together at all.

Masterful piece :) Restraint that lulls you in and then it lands a punch right to the gut... beautiful! Karnivool is simply fantastic!! ^_^

@P_Floyd Indeed. Unlike Themata, this album's replayability comes from the album as a whole rather than individual tracks.

the middle part with the peter guy manners speech (to which this album owes its title) is just too beautiful. tears me apart every time. overall this song is gorgeous, too, but not the best kind of closer to SA I could think of. work well live for sure!

Such an amazing and fitting closer, especially from 6:00 on. The drum outro gives me chills.

I can't shake the feeling that this song is a weak closer and a poor follow-up to Change pt 1. I'd almost call this the weakest song on the album. It's definitely the one which I find myself listening to the least. I've seen it played live 5+ times and while it's definitely better live, I wish the guys wouldn't always close with it. Deadman is a far superior song as far as prog epics go. I'm not sure what it is but Change just feels a bit lifeless. Kinda like Tool's Rosetta Stoned.

Reminds me of Third Eye by Tool a lot, similar structure. Both are awesome, but this is better.

Lovin' the didge at the beginning, but other than that it's a fairly average close to an awesome album. I do have a feeling it might take a long time to grow though, so I won't stop listening. I'm fairly new to Vool, but I can see how this was a disappointment for long time fans after Change (Part 1) - hell, even I'm a bit disappointed!

The beginning of this song is my new standard definition of 'ominous'. The whole thing is brilliant.

The recording at the middle of the song belongs to Peter Guy Manners, talking about Cymatics at the beginning of Bring Matter to life with sound documental. "“Everything owes its existence solely and completely to sound. Sound is the basis for form and shape. In the beginning was the word and the word was God. We are told that this is how the world began and how creation took shape. We put that into the modern idiom and say: Into the great voids of space came a sound and matter took shape. Please, watch carefully.”

I'd like to know who the person who says the speech is, or where it's from. if you listen "extremely" carefully in change (part 1) you can hear voices in the background before Kenny comes in but they're not very distinguishable and i thought maybe it could be related to the same source as in Change.
