“A Great Chaos" is Ken Carson’s third studio album, following up his July 2022 sophomore album, X and the deluxe in October, XTENDED, and his January 2023 mixtape, "Lost Files 4".

Information about a new album started back on February 14, 2023, when Ken released new merch on his website. The merch contained two new t-shirts, with the text displaying: “A GREAT CHAOS.” That same day, Ken released a promotional single for this album, titled “i need u.”

Throughout the months of September 2022 through June 2023, Ken played a wide variety of snippets, with some fans speculating that tracks like “Jennifer's Body,” “It's Over,” and many more would end up being on the album.

Then on May 31, 2023, Ken Carson took to Twitter hinting on something being released in July. Two days later, Ken would take to Instagram revealing two new beanies, with the album’s title engraved, further hinting on a new album being on the way. That same day, Ken would take to Twitter confirming the album’s name and a July 17th release date.

On June 4, 2023, Ken made a private account on Instagram, named @agreatchaos. In that account, Ken would post promotional images of the album, alongside speculated merch for the album, which included t-shirts, hats, and a backpack. The images posted to the @agreatchaos account take inspiration from Live Leak, Early internet aesthetics, Creepypastas, and surreal imagery of humans with designer brand Rick Owen's gimp mask holes instead of a mouth.

On June 13, 2023, during an interview, Ken described the album’s sound as “Grunge Rap” and said it was inspired by Slam Metal, a death metal subgenre.

After continuing to promote the album, on June 25, 2023, Ken Carson took to Twitter to reveal the album’s official tracklist, with Destroy Lonely and Lil Uzi Vert being the album’s sole features, despite the tracklist removing the features.

Although the album was originally set to be released on July 17, the album would seem to get pushed back for reasons out of Ken’s control, as stated in a now-deleted tweet:

"its_not_me_im_doing_wut_i_can_/:"

To make up for the delay, Ken would tease on Twitter hinting on the release of the album’s lead single, “It's Over,” to which it was speculated that it would be coming out on July 21, however that ended up not being the case.

On August 11, 2023, Ken Carson stated in an Instagram livestream announcing that he would be releasing both “Paranoid” with Destroy Lonely and “Codeine Sipper” prior to the upcoming Antagonist tour from Opium, which never happened.

After leaving the album’s status in the dark, on August 13, 2023, Ken Carson took to Twitter hinting to a lead single for the album, “It’s Over” which never released as a single, but did release in the final album.

On September 7, 2023, Ken Carson took to Twitter hinting the album will release on October 13. On September 14, one week later, Kenyatta confirmed the release date by posting a picture that reads: "2023-10-13"

On October 6, at midnight, fans were greeted by a surprise announcement from Ken on social media, in which he shared a pre-save link to the album, which revealed the official cover art. The album was also upgraded to 18 tracks instead of 14, with “i need u” serving as the closure.

The entire album was leaked on October 9, 2023, four days before its set release date. The leaked album received amazing feedback, which only built more hype for the release. On October 11, 2023, the album's official updated tracklist was revealed to the public on Twitter, and the album was released on Friday the 13th, as planned.
