I haven't listened to this album for years. Tonight I discover it once again. As good as before.

Badass album, but I've always considered Mezzanine to be the group's peak. It was a unique example of a band being heavily influenced by an ex-member's solo work - after Tricky split and started putting out really dark solo albums, Massive Attack put out a pitch black record that out-Trickied Tricky himself.

I dismissed BL when I first tried it about 4-5 years ago, and only re-assessed after being blown away by Mezzanine a year or so ago. It continues to catch up to that focused and intense album in my mind, though for different reasons (as this feels less polished). Oh, and it does sound dated, but that only adds to its charm - not that it matters since production and sound wise it's fantastic.
