Songwriting has totally gone downhill since Dallas left. Vile Niolitic Rites (VNR) is boring and just sounds messy. Old Nile albums used to fill me with a sense of deep foreboding and dread as if I was actually a slave in Ancient Egypt building the pyramids and I knew at any moment a lash from the slave stick could tear a bloody mess through the skin on my back....VNR just sounds like the slave master has gotten old, feeble, lost his sight and now he couldnt even put fear into a small child.

How is Ithyphallic rated as one of their worst albums, when its easily one the best and most engaging from beginning to end

I would even go as far as to say Ithyphallic is their only concept album. The songwriting is so cohesive across the whole album from beginning to end, you really feel like you've been transported to Ancient Egypt to work as a slave building the pyramids or something. AotW is their best album and most gratifying for sure, but even it doesnt have as cohesive songwriting as Ithyphallic

what are the other hits? Ithyphallic (which I love) was the last I listened to for a while, then I finally went back to check out Vile Nilotic Rites and What Should Not Be Unearthed and they're both mediocre to my ears. Was there any good ones between Ithyphallic and those two that I missed?

Nothing that you need to stop what you're doing to check out, but I enjoyed Those Whom the Gods Detest (but a clear step down from previous works) and they have decent songs spread around the new stuff. Not much I revisit. Some people I know don't like anything post Black Seeds of Vengeance, so I might be a little lenient on this band as it is.

Yh Vile Nilotic Rites and What Should No be Unearth are quite boring. A lot of it feels like technicality for technicality sake, the songwriting has definitely gone downhill. At the Gates was their last good album

Ithyphallic is great and definitely not behind in their discography. And along with ITSD and Annihilation of the Wicked, this is when the band was at their peak and was the most creative. Althought I love all the other albums almost equally.

A rare group that can combine brutal and heavy music with a mystical and mysterious atmosphere so well.

Nile are good, but nothing beats old school death metal. Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Bolt Thrower, Deicide, Death... That was pure art.

People take modern Nile for granted, the sheer consistency of their modern albums is astounding. The day Sethu gets recognized for its vocal diversity, I'll be very happy indeed.

One of the most essential death metal band! I'm always looking forward for their next release.

Listen to Annihilation of the Wicked once every day for a week, if it still doesn't click it probably never will

I was scared shitless of these guys as a kid hahaha not the members but the sound, for me it was like what death sounded like and it gave me a severe sense of danger. as if the pure soul of a child was too close to corruption by listening to it.

Drums were kinda over-mixed tho even if it was fantastic drumming, and the guitar was only super clear during solos, sounded more clear in the second half when they played the older stuff

Fucking incredible live, really has me wanting to reassess the 2007-2015 material to find all the gold I skimmed over

Vile Nilotic Rites is utter fufu. Such a garbage album. Even Paris Hilton could write a better album.
