I haven't scrobbled this yet, since I'm not really into it. I'll give it another chance at some point this year.

Continuing in the vein of his 90s albums, Down to Earth is modern sounding, accessible, and has some deeply personal lyrics from Osbourne. It gets better and more intimate with every listen, which is something that I can't say about his 80s albums. While I think they're very good, it seems that Ozzy is on some other realm on those 80s releases - and by "80s releases", I mean Diary, BATM, Ultimate Sin and NRFTW - where he seems detached from the lyrics, which makes sense, because he wasn't as involved in writing them as he was on his later albums. Since "No More Tears", Ozzy has really poured his soul into each song, and you can really tell. The more you listen to these post-80s releases, the more Ozzy "speaks" to you, and you really begin to empathize with him. The songs are brilliant, and Ozzy becomes a real human, unlike the plastic metal star of those 80s albums.

For an Ozzy album I find this rather bad. It's my least favorite of his albums, but I love Ozzy so it's still a good album in comparison to countless other bands.

I don't think the songs are necessarily bad - well, "Facing Hell" and "You Know" aren't very good - but the production is lousy. Tim Palmer wasn't a metal producer, and didn't know how to produce a metal album. This thing needs a remix bad! If that ever happens, the gems from this album will be unearthed, as it were. I enjoy the album personally, but I think it needs a studio overhaul.

Not one of my favourites, but it's still quite good record. Black illusion and Alive are fillers. 3.5

I really like this album. it's a distinctly different sound from Ozzy's classic stuff with Randy. The heavier, less thrash oriented sound really works. It is a bit produced, but so were is earlier work. I don't see why people see this album as a sellout.
