OK, I had to look it up - they played it at Live Aid because: 1) it was new at the time 2) it had 'big theme' lyrics that suited the occasion ('in the shadow of a mushroom cloud', etc.) 3) it was popular with concert goers. As far as being a hit, its peak position was #10 in Ireland. Did not chart in North America.
