Probably my favorite Heep song, just a beautiful song with equally beautiful lyrics.

I was into this song until the wizard drank my wine. Like, we're not so far apart, but I don't know you and wine is actually limited to how quickly it can be produced and who makes it and where it is made. I will share md2020 with anybody but the good shit is only mine and mine.

It is a gentle, semi-acoustic ballad whose lyrics deal with a man wandering until he meets "the Wizard of a thousand kings", a possible reference to the druid Merlin, to Gandalf, to an angel or even God. This song is the first Uriah Heep single which had a music video. The song is in the tuning of C#-A-F-C-G-C. The song is written in the key of C major. The style of "The Wizard" represents a country rock ballad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_%28Uriah_Heep_song%29

@Eye_Gore: The cover art for "Demons and Wizards" was great. Little known fact was that the cover was a substitute, as the original cover design was too erotic to be sold.

I've first listened to this song when i was a boy from Blind Guardian as a cover. I love it; both the original version and Blind Guardian cover.
