The other day I played “Some People Never Know” and “Wild Life” for my Mom who is a Paul/Wings fan but didn’t remember their first album. She was in complete awe and almost cried as she listened to these two songs. Especially “Wild Life” she said was haunting and she must have never heard the song before because it’s a song you NEVER forget. Anyway, all the people sleeping on this album are really missing out on some masterpieces, imo.

I don't understand the antipathy so many fans and critics seem to have for this album. To me it's one of the most enjoyable McCartney/Wings/Beatles' post-Beatles albums. It has a raw, off the cuff, Country/Folk vibe that matches the great album cover perfectly. It's not the most lyrically insightful record out there, sure, but the Paul's draw has seldom been his way with words, so I don't see why this record should be singled out for having some kind of lightweight lyrics when it delivers in spades what I look to McCartney for: great melodies/songwriting, with top-notch performances. Paul was on fire throughout the 70s, IMO, and somewhere along the way people have lost sight of that; the Wings stuff was and is mostly terrific, as are his first solo LP (which I think this record kind of evokes in terms of how charming and easy-going it is) and Ram (one of the best records of the 70s),

His lyrics are fine too, I get tired of that typical talking point. Eleanor Rigby? For No One? Side Two of Abbey Road? His lyrics are fine!

Paul’s lyrics are often brilliant. “Junk” and “Single Pigeon” are two examples of perfect little songs whose music is very much married to the words.

I remember reading an interview with John where he said something like Paul is a great lyricist who doesn't have self-confidence in his abilities so a lot of the time he doesn't try. I think there's truth there, he can write perfect, beautiful lyrics when he really wants to.

Well, okay, it turns out I do love Revolver. But that's neither here nor there. *This* album is phenomenal.

Man, this is a hundred times the album Sgt. Pepper's is. I'm on a big Beatles/solo trip again (there's my younger self TheFatChocobo below) and not much has changed: I still love this, and still don't love anything they did before 1968.

Right on, Tron! One year has passed and I like it even more now than I did then. Besides, it's got one of the all-time great album covers.

Fantastic, and unlike anything Paul had done before or would do again. Completely unique & wonderful feel on this slice of rustic glory. One of my favorite of Paul's albums!
