to be honest I'm still a bit burnt out from finishing school and haven't done any serious reading in a while :-/ what kind of books are you interested in? I'm slowly working my way through Red Shambhala by Andrei Znamenski, about how Bolsheviks used Tibetan Buddhist mythologies and other occult ideas

it was a lizard test to make sure you weren't a lizard. Have you heard anything about the stories about the ancient Slavs defeated the Reptiloids on lake Baikal? Speaking of ancient Slavs, if you like russian music maybe you have heard this band: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_khDe479XJhP2fFq_x72N1POr5MgETnuGo , if not, i'm sure you'll like it! this is great album! I think it has the same psychedelic impact as LOVE's Forever Changes

haha yes I think the most "contemporary" writer we gave significant time to was Brodsky. I enjoyed studying Andrei Bely, and also Mayakovsky was entertaining, partly because of the professor. She was mainly a superfan of Blok and Mandelstam but... you know how obsessive Kurt Cobain fans act toward Courtney Love? That's how this professor was to Lili Brik, it was hilarious

It's a bit funny how you described it all lol what country are you from? France? I think we never studied Bely in school even, the rest we talked about pretty much a lot, but I have always been a fan of foreign literature, but I loved Dostoevsky and Leo Tolstoy. I mean it's difficult to read Fyodor D., but it gets interesting with pages.

not France, US! lol, I'm a really slow reader and I'm a bit ashamed to admit, The Idiot was the one book where I gave up and watched the TV adaptation😔 What kind of foreign literature do you like? & actually Bely was not too much on the typical list but in my last year I was very ill and read him alone at home (I tried coming to class & the prof basically handed me a book and said go home and read this instead)

Oh, my bad, I think the caption in what I believe to be French confused me a bit! I am a slow reader as well, can read a book forever or a few at the same time. Well, I love Sartre, Stendhal, Strindberg and so on, I like French authors a lot, and have yet to read more works by them. As of now, I am mostly into psychology literature. I got MA in clinical psychology, so that's one of my interests. And one of my fave books is by Fromm which is about human destructiveness. Are you still studying?

Thank you! Well, it depends on how you look at it. By the way, I've been meaning to ask, have you read anything by George Bataille?

oh yes, you are not true kvlt unless you crawl around in the forest listening to black metal. Even better if you don't play any recorded music and instead make your own by banging rocks together and groaning! Are you near the coast? To get really impressive mountain views, inland or on the sea, I'd have to drive for a few hours, but even in this more developed area where I live there are lots of interesting landscapes, cliffs by the river and so on

Hahahah yeah true! I always wanted to make music Maybe one day! Who knows? Yes, my city is right by the sea, but since there are only buildings, you can't see anything anymore. At two or three kilometers there is a forest and there are incredible views, if I leave I will make photos to send them to you. Otherwise in a few minutes I'll go out

Ah, you just reminded me Silenius. Do you know that he is back with Abigor and has been for some years. They are preparing a new album. I really don't feel the industrial sound in Summoning's music, I would say they have become a bit more melodic and they have introduced a clean vocal. Today I started my day with Bathory and I also want to listen to Abigor afterwards lol

For the moment no date has been set for the release of their new album. They just published on their facebook page last February that Silenius had finished recording the vocal parts and also they gave the tracklist

Yeah even talking about classical music, I don't like symphonic/orchestral things so much. The "bigger" the sound the harder it is to connect to, it feels colder and just slips away. Then adding to rock or metal it seems often like a shortcut for appearing more "complex" or sophisticated without anything to support it. But I still manage to enjoy many keyboard-heavy albums, there's no rule ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Indeed, as far as music appreciation is concerned, there are no rules to follow. I don't like when it's symphonic beyond my musical expectations. When there is too much symphony, it's like drinking coffee with too much sugar and it's not good at all! I like coffee without sugar as I like music without deafening symphony

Yep, noticed that about them as well. It reminds me of December Souls days, when the tracks were around 10 minutes and kept changing throughout. I remember having to check whether it was the same song still playing and often times it was! They toned it down a bit on Discouraged Ones, but they're back at it again with recent releases.

I get you on the Judas Christ thing, when I first listened to it I felt like I could barely sit through it, with no particular track that stood out except for 'Vote for Love'. But I revisited it shortly after and now I really love that album, I especially have a sweet spot for 'Love is as Good as Soma'. For me Katatonia records are like, okay at first listen, nothing very shiny, then after a couple of weeks or so I decide to listen to them again and discover new moments in songs and I'm like 'damn, how did I miss this!'. Same for new Amorphis stuff. The new Katatonia started to grow on me as well already, Drab Moon is really nice!

City Burials did take a while to grow on me, tried listening to it multiple times but besides two or three tracks, I felt like the rest was pretty forgettable. I did enjoy The Fall of Hearts, though. I can't speak for Moonspell since they did take some time to grow on me and I'm still not very familiar with their entire discography, but Sentenced and Tiamat are more enjoyable to me in the sense that they don't really have albums or songs I can't jam to. And I agree, sometimes I find myself wishing the music wasn't as polished but with the right mood it's really killer. Plus we'll always have their earlier eras

Just finished listening to Sky Void of Stars, didn't really make a big impression on me, except for Birds and Impermanence, the other tracks didn't stand out that much. Could just be me though, since it takes a few listens to get into newer Katatonia stuff. My favourite album is Discouraged Ones so makes sense I'd prefer their simpler, more straightforward stuff haha

What do you think about the new Katatonia? I'm pumped for the album even though from all the tracks I only came back to Birds
