Mixx pop is a loosely defined sub-genre of music, most prevalent in the K-pop scene. Its first mainstream appearance is attributed to the song "I Got a Boy" by Girls' Generation. It featured a number of different sections with varying instrumentals as well as key & tempo changes that were repeated or mashed with each other throughout the track.
The genre had occasional resurgences with tracks such as "Next Level" by Aespa or "Forever Young" by BLACKPINK. JYP's girl group NMIXX expanded the use of the genre with most of their title tracks falling under the category, starting with their debut track "O.O."
Mixx pop's defining feature lies in its unique blend of tempo and key changes, reshaping the entire song. Moreover, its flexibility allows for incorporation of various genres besides pop, such as trap, rap, hip-hop, R&B, EDM and more.
