No need to be sad. If you're talking about instant message/icq, it's 358051551. And I still have yours I think. And, btw, I finally went to Brighton Beach, this huge Russian neighborhood in Brooklyn. Everybody there was speaking Russian and most of the signs on buildings were in Russian. There were all-Russian language bookstores and movie stores and some store owner, thinking I was a Russki, asked me in Russian what I was looking for. It was great. And I'm moving back to California tomorrow morning.

You told me a long time ago that you heard "You, The Living" was good and it's coming out on DVD on the 12th so I'll finally see it. I saw another movie "Songs From the Seventh Floor" by the same director (Roy Andersson) a while ago and it was hilarious but super slow. My teacher Boris played it in class. And how are things? And when do you graduate?

Happy birthday! I just realized that it's 1:37 A.M. in Moscow now, so it's technically not your birthday anymore, but whatever. And even though it's kind of late to do, I'm going to send you a birthday letter and it won't get there for a long time because the mail sucks. And, by the way, today I heard a random woman walking by say, "Что мне нравится" to the guy she was with and I knew what she was saying but didn't understand what the context was. So my Russian is improving. Yay!

Oh, I meant your real address, not your email address. But yeah, I'm good. I'm going to put some more songs to my myspace and last.fm soon since me and my friend Joey recorded enough songs this summer for an EP. And on my Pimsleur tapes, I'm now at lesson 45 out of 90. To practice Russian, I've also been watching Russian movies and documentaries on WW2 that have interviews with Soviet soldiers. And what kind of haircut did you get? I got a haircut too. I look like a 1964 Beatle except my hair is dark black.

Well, I'm interested in Russia because it's so different than the rest of Europe. It's had a much more interesting post-World War 2 history and political situation than Western Europe and the national personality/attitude of Russians seems completely different than Western Europe and the exact opposite of Scandinavia. Russia still seems very Russian while the U.S. and a lot of European countries are changing because of massive amounts of immigration. And in my neighborhood in New York City, there is a library where 1/5 of all the DVD's they rent are in Russian (without any English subtitles). There are 3 million Russians in the U.S. and many of them live in New York or San Francisco so I might even use my little knowledge of Russian while I'm still in America.

My Russian is pretty bad but slowly progressing. I'm learning by listening to Pimsleur, which teaches you a word and then you have to repeat it out loud, then it teaches you a new word, and then you have to repeat out loud the first word, etc., etc., until you know a lot of words. There are 90 lessons, 30 in Russian 1, 30 in Russ 2, etc., and each lesson is 30 minutes. So that's 45 hours of lessons. I'm on lesson 5 of Russian 2 (which is basically lesson 35/90) and you're supposed to do one lesson per day, so I should be really good in 55 days. The one thing it doesn't teach is how to spell in Cyrillic; it's purely verbal. And I didn't understand a word of your first message until I used "google translate." I understood the 2nd message though without google translate: "You're interested in Russian, Russia, why?"

Yay! You're back! and you can help me study too. By the way, I'd like to go to Russia sooner (and I might if my family's money situation gets better) but I'm planning to go to Sochi with my friend Joey for the 2014 Olympics. I think that would be really bizarre and a lot of fun. And not much has happened with me. Me and Joey have been recording songs this summer but not as much as we should have. This is going to be my last year of college and I don't have a job or internship planned when I graduate next May so I'm kind of worried. But I'm thinking about doing a crazy job like working on a freighter, sort of like those recently kidnapped Russians were doing. It would be a cool way to see the world. What about you? Что бы Вы хотели делать? Is that right?
