Well, nevermind. I was studying Nordic runes system when I stumbled upon the rune Berkano, which is a rune incarnating maternal nurturing. Berkano's swedish name is Björk so I thought it was directly linked. That suprised me given how modern the singer's music sounds, I would never think that she might be into ancient European esotericism, despites a few possible hints ("Pagan Poetry" or the Vegvisir bindrune tatooed on her left arm) plus the fact that Iceland is litterally the only actual country that openly does not treat elementals as fictional characters. But in the end it is simply her birth name (Björk Guðmundsdóttir) and Björk is a common Icelandic name given to girls meaning the white birch tree, a tree respected as a symbol of personal growth, same meaning as the Swedish name. So it shares the same meaning as the rune itself. Coincidence or not, I think her public figure still incarnates the egregore of that rune succesfully. The nurturing mother figure. Quite a funky mother.

Sorry, I truly was thinking yours was sarcasm, because Björk's "stage name" simply is her birth name indeed. But yes, In Icelandic it means birch tree, Björn instead, for the male, means bear. The birch is a very important tree in Iceland because is one of the very few kinds that grow in that type of territory. Guðmundsdóttir means "daughter of Gudmunds", her father. I've always found fascinating her Vegvisir tatoo (aesthetically too), it represents a compass which allows who wears it to find always the right way in life, If I remember correctly. Although I still don't know much about Nordic runes and pagan mysticism, but I have to say you came out with a very interesting correlation with that rune and her, In Medulla there are specific songs where she sings about what means being a mother. Björk surely is an enigmatic persona which perfectly represents the Icelandic animism through her character and her music, somehow the folkloristic faerie itself.

Hey maybe you will enjoy this record for some reason : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrotIKgFaEk I didn't think of Björk until a friend reminds me that the tone of voice sounds a bit alike, but it's the same person who told me that Daughter's frontwoman reminded her of Björk so I'm not sure about this but you might be tempted to say that it sounds like Björk without the terrible songwriting.

It's very beautiful, but I don't understand why it should remind me of Bjork, different kind of vocal harmonies and phrases, not even the timbre is that similar. It's also obvious that the compositional direction is far from her. I think so far the one who can make resonate the Bjork timbre accurately, and being also very expressive in that (without being emulative), is the singer from Under Byen.

I agree, listening is a lifetime practice which builds not only the perception of music itself but sound in general. Pauline Oliveros did a very insightful research project about this called Deep Listening (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QHfOuRrJB8) Also recommendations are a way of sharing an experience, especially in art, people who are upset about them is generally because they act self indulgent or they think someone is forcing his individuality. Anyway, I'm in a music conservatory, so I actually study the history of ancient music too.

Yes I know about her but that's quite an extremist example. To me her speech just sounds like the quest of a western occidental trying to understand basic sensual experiences through pretentious intellectual means. Like most modern composers. She's right about the fact that ear training is about developping a sensitive mindset more than developping the ear muscles but I fail to understand how someone can spend their whole lifetime studying such a limited subject, get no concrete results other than their own experience and still get away with it.

I don't find it pretentious, it's a linear and rational speech reduced to the simplest. Her book is where she goes deep into the thing, apart the whole music project of the same name which is fascinating. She's a composer who dedicated most of her life to sound and electronic experimentation, she has developed a deeper and a broader awareness of involvement in the soundscape, and applying these listening techniques to music and all aspects of life is not a limited subject at all. Also it might assume a spiritual manner to some extent. You can still identify this as a "subjective experience", but her mindset on sound was huge, but most of all very lucid and human.

Wow thank you for this, I thought I was the only one who didn't like this evolution. I can't believe they came from albums such as War Of the Roses or Shadows of the Sun to this, this album sounds very bland to me. And you didn't listen to Toby's solo record yet?

I don't know, I think it's ok but I've already heard most of those tracks live, and they sounded better in my memories. I remember the atmosphere made me think of songs sung around a night camp fire, very peaceful but here they seem to sound more new-agey and slow paced. I wonder how much his deceased teacher Yusef Lateef influenced this sound. And this record really reminds me a fucking lot of Stern's Bone Turquoise album. I find it a bit boring honestly but the emotion is still there so I don't complain.

The track is pretty sweet! Keep it up, man. It's really the style of music I love. Hypnotic, non-derivative and fresh sound design. I'm interested in hearing what was your creative process while composing this, what software (or/and hardware) have you used and which techniques were involved. Is this a school project?

There’s no recording of the Prague set as far as I’m aware. I hope they will release it officially, though I think the chances are slim this time. Shame I’ve decided not to record it myself (I’ve recorded the Krakow gig with a handheld stereo recorder in lossless 24/96 and all that but like a year later the official recording came out and the bootleg lost its relevance. So I’ve decided I won’t record this 2016 show and fully enjoy the experience without thinking constantly if I’m holding the recorder in the right direction and stuff.

You’re actually right that they’ve never went this abstract before. It didn’t really ocurr to me and I’ve heard a shitload of bootlegs throughout the years from their various periods. Compared to the official albums/EPs they all tend to be more ...I don’t know how to describe it... easy listening? Nothing is easy listening to common folk when it comes to Autechre but their live sets up until 2014 seem more rhytmical, less odd time signatures going on, more frantic, uptempo. I think it took them some time to get the confidence to do really whatever they want in the live environment while not being limited with the idea they have to make it at least a bit dancey. Now they have stronger fanbase than ever and I think after the success of 2014/2015 tour which was already on the more experimental side they realized they can really do whatever they please and the right people will come to listen to that.

Hey! I've been listen to your music on Soundcloud, I must say that I really like It! ^^ Some are very atmospheric... I noticed that you also have a Vimeo (the link on about me is not correct) and you also have a Glitchy style on pictures and video, so you absolutely have a style. In Soundcould you describe yourself as "Psychological guitarist." Why do you say you are a psychological guitarist? I'm just curious. :) You have a nice library, btw :)

===PART 7=== It’s incredible they’re still evolving and pushing boundaries after almost 30 years of making music. And they’re really consistent and prolific. You can tell these guys live for music. After the show I got out of the club and get on a tram still in trance. I couldn’t think straight it was really weird in a good way. In the tram after a while I’ve noticed a guy with a funny grin on his face so I was looking at him and I’ve started wondering why does he keep smilling looking basically nowhere and then I’ve noticed a MeetFactory club entry bracelet on his arm and completely understood.

===PART 6=== The third highlight was this grainy droney bass part towards the end of the set. I just don’t know how these guys do it and I don’t want to know. This is just part of the magic for me. After the set ended the light went back on and the stage was empty... so I haven’t seen Sean or Rob at all, not before they started and not after and it just made it all more mysterious for me. I’ve seen them in Krakow fiddling with their stuff, preparing for the show and even during the show I’ve seen them a little but this time there was absolutely no visual encounter. It was just out of this world. This whole experience was just another solid confirmation that they’re the best of the best for me. I hate fanboyism so I won’t be saying I love them or that they’re gods and all that crap but these guys just make some next level shit you don’t hear from anybody else.

===PART 5=== This is hard to describe but all of the sudden this totally in your face poly synth string chords started playing... like BOOOOOM (one chord)... silence... BOOOOM (second chord).... silence... and so on. Very interesting modulation going on on the chords. The chords sounded almost like church organs... but like alien church organs from the future. And it had the whole frequency spectrum so with each chord there was a huge bass rattling our bodies. I fell completely into trance, huge grin on my face, enjoying this almost spiritual experience. Freaking trippy! Ahh how I wish I could hear that again. I’ve heard a recent interview where they said they plan to release some sets from this tour again but as I know from the Krakow official soundboard it’s nothing like the real experience. It’s really nice to have a recording but it just can’t be compared to the sound of huge soundsystem and and the physical environment involved.

===PART 4=== The set was very different to the previous tour, somewhat slower, less beat oriented (not meaning there were no beats, it’s really hard to describe), more abstract I’d say but incredibly intense. The sound was just fantastic, well balanced and bass heavy. The bass vibrated through everything, the building, the air, the biomass of bodies among me hidden in the dark. I was absorbing the music not only by ears but with my whole body. There was three particular highlights of the set that made me smiling like a retard and almost crying. The first was when a very melodic (for Autechre) bass synth appeared and than this really nasty intense breakbeat dropped and people went crazy! The beat gradually got more and more irregular and fucked up almost in the confield style until it annihilated itself completely. Another highlight was probably the most intense sonic thing I’ve ever experienced.

===PART 3=== Anyway, after the sonic torture stopped Andy came back to do some other 20 minutes of his set and it calmed me down (also the volume level was back to normal). Then Andy finished, I immediately removed my ear protection as I wanted to hear Autechre with no sound „barrier“ and just few seconds after he finished lights went off completely - and I mean completely, i Krakow there was still some residual lighting from the nearby bar and other things but here the club managed to make total darkness, like total, I couldn’t see any person next to me, it was absolutely magical. As soon as lights went off this really beautifully modulated synth ambient pad sound washed through the club vibrating the concrete structure we were in. It was orgasmic. As you can imagine it’s pointless to even try to describe this but I’m kind of doing it just for the fuck of it :D.

===PART 2=== I know Russell because Autechre remixed one of his tracks this year (or was it the last year? not sure). It sounded like the guy tried to make the most ugly and annoying sounds ever. I'm into abstract music but this was just too fucking ...I don't even know how to call it. Absolutely nonmusical, not pleasing... it was fucking torture. And the guy even doubled the volume level when he started! I'm so happy I was wearing ear protection because I'm convinced my brain would melt and dripped out of my head through my ears because of the volume level. "Compositionally" it was absolutely horrible, first 15 minutes it was just kick drum bouncing with absolutely no sense of rhythm not even for a second. Then a lot of really ugly tones started. I think he made the whole thing on modular, couldn't see really well what he was operating.

===PART 1=== TOTAL FUCKING ECSTASY!!! I had a hard time getting back to reality after the show. I think it topped the Krakow gig I've attended two years back. The venue was awesome, all heavy concrete building with very high ceiling so it was like standing in a concrete cube, I stood in the middle, this time I thought to myself there's no point in being in the front because as you know they play with the lights off so I found a sweetspot in the centre. I've arrived when Andy Maddocks (he's the founder of Skam Records btw, Autechre released their first release on this label) just started with his DJ set... at least I think it was a DJ set, I'm not aware he produces music but the music seemed very coherent, sort of slower tempo 4/4 music sounding like a combination of dub, industrial, idm, very chill and inspirational music, I wish I had a tracklist. After Andy there was a Russell Haswell set of his original music. To be honest that was absolutely awful.

I'll make sure to check it out! And I'm happy you had the chance to see Ae live, I hope it was as life-changing for you as it was for me. I've just heard an interview with Sean and Rob yesterday where they were describing that the current tour is quite different to the previous one, more abstract/musique concrete-esque... well at least that's how I imagine it, they've described it as less beat oriented and more slow, yet still very intense. I'm really curious what's ahead of me (tomorrow, yay!).

Anyway, I like that visual aspect of things is clearly also very important to you. I know about your Autechre videos but have you ever made visuals for your own music? I love visualisation reactive to music, I would love to learn how to do that but a man has only so much free time and can’t do everything.

Yeah, you’re probably right but then again there are standards everywhere. But I know what you mean. Experimental music seems less restricting but I often wonder why music by academic professionals sounds the same. I mean for some reason for example Max/MSP people usually make same sounding music (if they’re not Autechre, haha) – similar timbres, similar composition, similar goal. So there are always mental limitations, either you’re taught to produce in certain way (because you know the same production techniques as all the other students), or you learn that yourself but you’re influenced by music you listen to – and this can’t be avoided I think, we always make music referencing some other music. How could you not to when you have an existing concept on music? I often wonder what kind of music would a person who‘s never heard a single tune make. He would still be influenced by sound around him though. But that’s just me being philosophical.

I’ve always found jazz to be very experimental, you don’t think of jazz like that? For example jazz fusion of late 60s/early 70s is so amazing. Also avant-garde borrows a lot from jazz. Thumbs up for studying electroacoustic. What are your plans for future? I mean what exactly in the field would you like to do for living (if it’s realistic)? And thank you for listening to my music and your kind words. Köner reference is very flattering, he’s an exceptional artist in the drone/DA genre.
